Skills can come from either skill chips, investing points in your character creator, reading books/blueprints, or being one of few certain antags.

Skills improve your ability todo some tasks such as:

-Improve the quality on items/structures you create

-Improve the damage you do based on the weapon you use

-Improve interact speed based on what you do

Skills are also a requirement, if you're not skilled enough then:

-Cant craft/build some things such as an AI core or makeshift guns

-Cant use certain abilities like some martial arts or shield stances

-Cant speak or understand certain languages

How do I as a in game character gain skills?

theres a few ways, but the main one is skillchips

if you right-click over yourself, you have three skillchip slots

each skill chip has a variety of skills latched to it that lets you have certain skills

remove one skill chip, and so does the knowledge that comes with it.

You can get skill chips from:

-Head of personnel's vending machine, the PTech.

-Ordering them through your department's ordering console.

-Buying combat skillchips from the traitor/nukie uplink or simply taking it from a weapon's case that came with it.

The other way is books/blueprints.

Normal books dont do much, but blueprints teach a small amount of a specific skill. allowing you to gain the bare minimum for that skill (most of the time)

you gain blueprints and books by buying it at cargo, looking in the librarian bookshelves, or using the librian's printing press.
