Origin of the Hivemind

Oob'Mola'Iera ("our shared identity") was a planet-wide superorganism of sentient slime. Although it evolved much later than other known sentient lifeforms, it's united nature has allowed it to develop into a space-faring civilisation significantly faster than others, launching it's first spacecraft somewhere in the 19th century. Within approximately 150 years, it has successfully colonised the entire Oob'Mola'Wao ("our shared star") star system, independently developed warp drive technology, and began venturing out towards nearby stars in search of new information.

Discovery of phoron

Oob'Mola'Iera was the first lifeform to discover significant deposits of solid phoron in the year 2212. The new material immediately captured the hivemind's interest, and samples were quickly delivered to the research centers in Oob'Mola'Wao system. Having not yet encountered any other civilizations, applications of phoron were mainly focused on space travel and civilian needs, rather than military advancement.

The first contact war

In 2284, Oob'Mola'Iera has successfuly captured a radio signal from human space. In less than a year, two-way communication was established. Unfortunately for the hivemind, it was not familiar with the cruelty of the individual mind, and humanity soon learned about the existience of phoron and it's many useful properties. In 2297, a large UCSH military fleet has entered the edge of Oob'Mola'Ieran space, swiftly occupying phoron mining outposts. At first, Oob'Mola'Ieran armed forces didn't stand a chance, though the tides quickly began to shift, as Oob'Mola'Iera was rapidly adapting to human weaponry and tactics. Although it's ships lacked numbers and firepower, the superior warp drives, telepathic communication and vast intelligence allowed the hivemind to gain equeal footing with UCSH by early 2301.

Shortly after, the UCSH fleet began to retreat. Oob'Mola'Iera, assuming that it won the war, used the opportunity to reclaim some of it's lost territories, and develop new phoron-based weaponry, notably phoron bombs. However, unbeknownst to the hivemind, the fleet's rapid retreat was caused not by the war, but by the First Tear occuring. The emergence of bluespace crystals was of little interest to the hivemind, as it had bigger priorities in rebuilding it's colonies and preparing for any future conflict.

Sadly, it didn't have much time. In 2305, a second UCSH fleet appeared, this time outfitted with cutting edge bluespace drives and early phoron-based weaponry. Only a single phoron bomb was detonated, and although it did take out a significant portion of the UCSH fleet, it only delayed the inevitable. Within just 5 hours, the entire Oob'Mola'Ieran fleet was dismantled, the phoron bombs were captured, and shortly after dropped on Oob'Mola'Wao-IV, killing the hivemind's central core, and bringing an end to the Oob'Mola'Ieri Hivemind.

Aftermath and present day

After the hivemind's death, some of the remaining units began to quickly develop individuality. Much of the technology was lost, as was the whole civilization, but the individual members survived, splitting into many different factions.

Name	Summary
Oob'Mola (we, united)	The largest faction, and the least organized one, those units assumed a roughly human form, merging with the various human factions, eventually becoming the slime people we know today. Some of them still carry resentment towards humanity in general, and UCSH in particular, others have since carried on and accepted their new life. No longer capable of telepathic communications, or at least not any more so than other species.
Oob'Mola'Iera'Wol (our shared identity, rebuilt)	Small independent cells attempting to create a new slime hivemind. It is hypothesized that the blob infection was initially created by a Oob'Mola'Iera'Wol cell, and is a failed attempt of creating a new hivemind. No other notable feats have been recorded.
Oob'Tara'Veli (our army, shattered)	The remains of Oob'Mola'Ieran defense fleet, now operating completely on it's own. With each ship being a single large unit, most of them have developed individuality, and are still capable of telepathic communications. Usually hostile, these wonderful ships are nearly extinct as of today, though some can still be encountered rarely.
Wa'Oob'Ruga (not us, fleeing)	A large group of units who chose to leave the inhabited regions of the Milky Way entirely. Their current location is unknown, though individual units sometimes appear in the inhabited sectors to this day. On rough terms with other factions due to being percieved as cowards and traitors of the species.
