Al-Sadira Insurrection
It was a miracle that the rebellion even got off the ground. The Sadira System had been colonized for its lush, Earth-like planet; in 2405, thousands upon thousands claimed it as home. Many of these colonists descended from the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia, and the Steppes. Their ancestors escaped UCSH rule with the original Terrans and made up a large portion of its population. Justice, Brotherhood, and Sisterhood were among their highest tenets, and they followed them for centuries. Building this culture, many wanted to settle together to unify and fulfill their ancestors' promise of a truly united republic. They named the world “Al-Jawhara”, a traditional naming scheme. The colony would rise to prominence as a mining and engineering base within the Inner fringe. It would be an important pit stop for military and civilian explorers, especially those with similar legacies, and, true to its name, a jewel in the otherwise bleak fringe.
Things would sour, however, when the Terran Union pacified and destroyed the Decapoids homeworld in 2515. While the force disheartened many in the core, it was a simple, harsh truth. The fringes, tired of the strict rule and now being sent to the toxic world because of the Union's failure, lost faith in the council's moral standing. While those in Sadira remained loyal to the Terran Union, many shared that animosity, seeing it as a betrayal of what they stood for. The decision to rebel came after an unexpected visit: decapoids entered the system, hoping to make a quick stop because they were inexperienced with the vessels. Their carelessness and disheveled appearance immediately lowered public opinion. In violation of Terran Law, the local military trained them and offered hospitality. While considered a great act of justice and mercy, and a reflection of their way of life, it would spark protests on the fringes. When deserters came to the planet to proclaim a free fringe and offer their ships to protect Sadira, she had little doubt. Led by Cmdr. Atiya, the fleet would create a system defense in 2521. It would be a shock then, that the military would ignore the system for the entire pacification. The Council decided to let the system secede peacefully, as its out-of-reach nature, its borders with the problematic WPS, and its legacy as proof of the human spirit made it a huge issue for the increasingly ill-credible government's popularity. Hoping to calm the other systems, they decided to let them secede on the condition that they paid taxes for “protection”. The Deserters would settle, and in 2525, the Sunna Core was formed.
Rebuilding
The new nation was in a weird political spot, given that they were just as surprised to survive as the Terran Military was. The military hated the decision for obvious reasons, and the councils' support only deepened the military's distrust as the fringe kept rebelling. The Sunna Core itself feared invasion and was hampered by its “spacelocked” status between two great interstellar nations. Terra Union would still treat it as a forward post and much of the military would still dock and resupply, much to the confusion of it’s citizens. The reality was that the Sunna Core acted as a perfect buffer state between the two interstellar nations, and the Terran Union made a lot of money off a nation it didn’t have to give benefits to. Even luckier, the nation was a perfect jump-point for a Very, very important sector of known space. This meant that, rather than going through the xenophobic Terran Union, many explorers from all kinds of places would stop at the nation on their way to the corporate frontier. No matter how much the Advisory came to hate the blob of an enclave on their maps, they couldn't root them out… for now.
