Robust Guide
Many cadets before you have asked these questions ("How do I even properly be a Security Officer?" "What am I doing?" "Can I magdump the assistant?") Have you said any of these? Then this is a short guide for you my little maints warrior soon you won't even remember being a cadet.
Security Cadet might be your first real job on the station after spending a few rounds as a assistant, or maybe you made the enormous mistake of trying this out as your first role. To be clear, this is not a role for absolute beginners. If you are unprepared you can always go to cryosleep or ask the Head of Personnel for a different job.
Gearing up
Once you arrive on station go to the Security locker room open up one of the lockers and grab the supplies you need then head to the secvend for extra gear. If you need anything from the armory ask the warden do not steal or try breaking into the armory unless It's a life threatening emergency like Nuclear Operatives. You can always ask your fellow officers or the Warden if you need help choosing what gear to pick up.
How to properly arrest
For a proper arrest they need to break the law (obviously) All crimes are listed in Space Law, do not worry you don't have to sentence, the warden typically does that. Firstly open up your sec belt by hovering over it and pressing E once you've done that take out the baton and press Z with it inhand go up to the criminal hover over them and use LMB once and then again to fully stun. Once they're crawling on the ground and screaming "shitsec" go into your sec belt and grab cuffs use RMB to wideswing the cuffs to put them on the criminal. Finally Alt + click on them then drag them back to security for the warden to sentence them.
Sometimes antagonists win

Sometimes, there's truly nothing you can do. The Security Officers you have were either bad at listening, bad at communicating, bad at combat, or Security was just overwhelmed and now everyone is dead in the halls. If a antagonist has ascended or multiple traitors are running around and most of Security is dead it's okay to put yourself first and survive, but you still have the duties of a officer and NT would probably punish you for not throwing yourself at them in vain.
Tips
- Your fellow officers and Command are generally more trustworthy sources of information
- Find a more experienced officer to pair up with, and never be afraid to ask for help or a second opinion
- Listen to your radio and the people around you
- Police brutality is funny, but usually the last resort
- Communication is key, and there is always room for improvement
- ALWAYS listen to the Head of Security and your Warden, until you are certain that they've gone mad and can't be trusted as a figure of authority
